Firewood
There are different types of firewood that provide different types of heat output.
The heat from burning wood depends not only on its dryness, but also on the type of wood. The highest heat output is from oak. Oak wood is considered the best firewood for a fireplace, but again, care must be taken not to overheat it in stoves. Conifers have an average heat output, due to their high resin content and large amount of smoke, they are not recommended for burning in open fireplaces, but they are excellent fuel for stoves. In addition, alder firewood has a lower heat output, is resin-free and produces less smoke. Alder firewood is better suited for baking and grilling with an open flame. Experts recommend burning alder after the heating season to clean the chimney after coniferous and birch firewood.
Facts worth knowing about firewood
Oak wood provides a lot of heat when firing a stove, but at the same time, you need to be careful not to overheat the stove. Ash wood is more difficult to light, but it burns even when not completely dried.
Birch wood burns with an even flame and longer than other types of wood.
Alder wood has a reddish hue and retains its aroma for a long time. Alder dries faster and emits the least smoke when burned, compared to other types of wood.
Aspen wood is more difficult to ignite, so it is usually burned together with other types of wood. It burns for a long time and retains heat for a longer time.
Linden wood retains heat for a long time and is stable, but is more difficult to ignite.
Pine and spruce wood provide a lot of heat and burn for a long time, but they tend to spark due to the resin, but they are an excellent material for making kindling to light a stove. They are not recommended for lighting a fireplace.
